For the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent, we are asked to develop the new bookshop and entrance of the museum. For us, the inspiration starts with the curves of a curtain: the dept and the color difference is an aim to translate into furniture. The open furniture is warm in their presence; visually and in daily use. With the history of the building and the existing furniture of Maarten van Severen in mind.

The focus is laid on finding a balance between the straight lines and aluminium frames of Maarten Van Severen, and the tactile furniture of destroyers/builders. The bookcases and presentation modules made from impregnated deep green chipwood, are based on a fascination for this fibrous material and touchable surfaces, it simulates the character of felt. The curved profiles are a translation of the drapes of a curtain; shadow and depth through these details.
