As a first gesture to reflect stone masonry into new sculptures, a new masonry, the Low Wax Bench found its form. The flexibility of the wax – in which the model is built – acts the opposite from the massive coarse stone blocks, as typical in stone masonry. This traditional way of building walls and houses, originated from the Inca culture, though with many origins, amongst others, Japanese ways of building with stone. Today, diverse stone masonry can be found in both ancient as contemporary architecture. These endless variations: walls built with residual stones, each with different shapes, stacked on each other, seemingly just happens to fit together. This coffee table is a continuation from Linde Freya Tangelder’s investigation on these possibilities in stone masonry.
